Print size changes the way a photograph feels in a room. A small print invites close viewing, while a large print becomes part of the interior design. This guide compares common centimetre sizes and explains where each works best for framed prints, canvas and wall displays.

30 × 40 cm: Compact and Versatile

A 30 × 40 cm print is a useful size for bedrooms, hallways, desks, shelves and gallery walls. It is large enough for a favourite portrait or travel image to feel substantial, but still easy to group with other frames. With a mount and frame added, the finished piece will be noticeably larger than the print itself.

This size works especially well for portrait photographs, children, pets and simple artwork. If you are decorating a large wall, consider using several 30 × 40 cm frames together rather than relying on one small frame as the only focal point.

45 × 60 cm: A Strong Medium Size

At 45 × 60 cm, a photograph has enough presence to work as a standalone piece on many walls. The 2:3 proportion also matches many camera images naturally, which can reduce the amount of cropping required. It is a good choice for travel photography, couples, family portraits and landscapes.

A 45 × 60 cm canvas feels contemporary and lightweight, while a framed print at the same image size can feel more architectural because the frame and optional mount increase the outside dimensions.

60 × 80 cm: Statement Wall Art

A 60 × 80 cm print is large enough to become a focal point above a console, sideboard or smaller sofa. Fine details in the photograph are much easier to appreciate, so image quality becomes more important. Use the original photo file whenever possible and check the resolution before ordering.

For modern interiors, 60 × 80 cm is often a useful middle ground: large enough to look intentional, but still easy to position in apartments and villas without dominating the room.

75 × 100 cm and Larger

Once you move to 75 × 100 cm, 90 × 120 cm and larger formats, the artwork starts to function as a major design feature. These sizes suit living rooms, dining rooms, offices, reception areas and large bedroom walls. They are particularly effective for landscapes, architecture, abstract photography and simple compositions with a strong focal point.

Large prints should be viewed from the intended distance. A photograph does not always need to be printed at 300 DPI to look excellent on a wall several metres away, but the source file still needs enough resolution to avoid obvious pixelation or softness.

How Print Size Affects Cropping

Different print sizes have different proportions. A 30 × 40 cm print has a 3:4 ratio, while 45 × 60 cm and 60 × 80 cm use a 2:3 ratio. If your image ratio does not match the chosen print size, part of the photograph may need to be cropped. Always preview the image carefully, especially when faces, feet, text or architectural features are near an edge.

Framed Print or Canvas?

The same image size can feel very different depending on the finish. A framed print gains additional visual width from the frame and mount, making it appear larger on the wall. Canvas has a cleaner edge-to-edge presentation and can be a good choice when you want the photograph itself to dominate.

How to Choose the Right Size

Measure the available wall width, consider the furniture below it and use painter's tape to mark the approximate outside dimensions. For a single piece, erring slightly larger often looks more deliberate. For a gallery wall, smaller sizes provide flexibility and allow you to build a balanced arrangement over time.

Check Your Photo Before Printing

Before ordering a large print, upload the original image to the Framing.ae image-quality checker. Once the resolution and crop look right, you can create a framed print or canvas in the size that best suits your space.
